DAR Conference

Genealogy is a hobby of mine and I enjoy learning about my ancestors. I think it's the history lover in me. The records of births, deaths, and marriages all tell amazing stories. Some of the very old newspaper articles tell dramatic stories so eloquently in a manner that would never be seen in a newspaper today. Every detail is recorded. I love to see all of the children who were born and their names. Even some of the last names change spellings several times throughout history.

Recently, I had the pleasure of attending the Maryland Daughters of the American Revolution state conference. There were many activities held during the conference including dinners, meetings, genealogy workshops and more. I really learned a lot about research and it's so interesting to compare stories about everyone's families. One of these days, I'm sure that I'll meet a long lost cousin.

This is a silly little thing, but I was beyond excited because I wore long gloves for the first time in many years. Actually, the only other time I wore gloves like this was when I was a debutante. Since my dress didn't have sleeves, I wore long gloves for the receiving line.

The national conference is going to be held in DC in July and happens to take place on my birthday! How exciting is that?

What are your plans for today? We're going to see the Cherry Blossoms at the Tidal Basin. We're supposed to have temperatures around 80 degrees today and I am thrilled. Enjoy your day!

  1. I love researching my family as well! Upon graduating boarding school, I received the DAR award. That's awesome you are still invovled! Have a great weekend!

  2. I'm a DAR too! I would just love to go to a conference sometime.

  3. What fun! I am in the Colonial Dames and have been so blessed with a mother and grandmother who are insane with our family's history. And how nice to be able to wear the elbow length gloves again... the deb season was the last time I wore mine too!

  4. So much fun! And you look FAB in the pic! :-) XOXO

  5. That sounds so fun! I've been thinking about joining the DAR for awhile!
