Big White Barn Produce

You probably know that Lilly Pulitzer’s theme for Summer 2010 is “Buy Local.” Many print names are inspired by local farmer’s markets such as “multi fresh picked patch.”

Today I want to introduce two of my dear friends to you. Anita, Steve, and their adorable daughter Sophie have the best produce from their farm, Carrollton Manor. Last summer, Natalia said that “Miss Anita gave me the best tomato of my whole life!” Seriously, she’s probably right. Their vegetables are all so delicious and all of the different varieties are incredible.

This historic 200 acre farm, located in Buckeystown, Maryland, belonged to Declaration of Independence signer, Charles Carroll of Carrollton.

It’s so nice to know who is growing the food you eat and to enjoy fresh seasonal produce. The things that you buy in the Farmer's Markets are freshly picked the morning of the market. There's nothing better than that! You can buy vegetables and other things from Carrollton Manor Farm at many local markets in the MD/DC/VA area. Here’s a schedule of where you can find them:

St. Joseph's Parish, 100 Church Lane, Cockeysville, MD 21030, Sunday (9:00 - 11:00)

Urbana Farmers Market, Landon House, Sunday (1:00 – 4:00)

The Farm, 6601 Manor Woods Road, Monday (3:00 - 6:00)

Crystal City Farmers Market, Crystal Drive between 18th and 20th Streets, Tuesday (3:00 - 7:00 p.m.)

Foggy Bottom Farmers Market, I Street between New Hampshire and 24th Street, NW., Wednesday (2:30- 7:00)

Penn Quarter Farmers Market, North end of 8th St. NW, between D and E Sts. NW, Thursday (3:00 - 7:00)

Federal Hill Farmer's Market, Baltimore Museum of Industry, Saturday (9:00 - 1:00)

At the Farmer's Market, you can pick up your fresh items from the Big White Barn Produce to carry home in your Lilly Market Bag! Anita always has great suggestions and recipe cards at the market with fantastic ideas for your vegetables. Last summer, I made her zucchini recipe (with the largest zucchini I'd ever seen) and it was so delicious. If you want to have a variety of fresh vegetables on a weekly basis, you may want to consider purchasing a share of the farm. A CSA, is a "subscription" from the farm. Every week, you'll get a box with fresh produce at it's peak. The box will have about 8-10 items in it, enough for a family of 2-4 people. You'll get fresh produce every week from June through November, about 22 weeks.

Attention MD/DC/VA/PA readers!

Carrollton Manor Farm is generously offering a share of their produce to one very lucky local winner. Imagine how delicious your summer will be with a box of freshly picked produce every week. The winner can pick up the CSA subscription every week at any of the farmer's markets listed on the Big White Barn's website or directly at the farm.

xoxo

  5. Wow, what a neat place! Makes me want a tomato straight off the vine. Our home garden won't sprout tomatoes until July. Patience is a virtue, right? Can't wait! Thanks so much for sharing!

  13. What a great post, I was just trying to find a service like this last week and was not having any luck. This past weekend I bought a bunch of herbs to plant in my garden at the Falls Church Farmers Market. I also "liked" Big White Barn Produce on facebook.
