Plazas

Hello! I haven't written a post about Mexico for a while, so I decided to talk about one of my favorite things in Mexico...Plazas! Plazas, often called a Zocalo, are commonly found in many Spanish speaking countries. These large, square shaped, open air spaces are surrounded by buildings on 4 sides. Many buildings are offices, shops, restaurants, churches, and government offices. The plazas are very important meeting places for people who live in the town and are social centers both day and night. The plazas are often very beautiful spaces with benches, flowers, trees, and all kinds of activities.

Here are some pictures from the Zocalo in Oaxaca, Mexico, where I lived for 6 years.

This is my sweet Natalia dressed like a little Spanish girl. She's in the Zocalo waiting for the festival parade to begin.

I love the balloon vendors in the zocalo...

You can also find a number of delicious restaurants in this plaza...

It's fun to hear all of the music from the bands, mariachis, and marimba blend together...

It's fun to go to the zocalo both during the day and in the evening...sometimes I'd go twice in one day!
