At the wedding I attended in Mexico, guests were greeted with a Tamarindo Margarita as they arrived at the reception. The recipe for the delicious and refreshing cocktail is used by the Sauza tequila distillery. Try this at your next party for a unique twist on a familiar drink.
Ingredients:
4 oz blanco tequila
3 oz tamarind concentrate
1 oz simple syrup
chili powder for rimming
1 cup ice
Preparation:
Pour the ice, tequila, tamarind concentrate and simple syrup into a blender.
Blend until smooth.
Rim a chilled margarita glass with chili powder.
Pour the blended contents into the glass.
What is a tamarind?
The Tamarind fruit grows on trees and is widely used in Mexican food and cuisine. Tamarindo is eaten in candy, ice cream, juices, and other drinks. The pulp can also be eaten plain. You can buy tamarind syrup from any number of specialty stores and vendors. The Ferrara (Italian maker of many flavorings) Tamarind syrup is particularly good.
