Baltimore Dollar Days

On December 4th and 5th, over 15 Baltimore museums and attractions will offer admission for $1. Dollar Days are very popular with families and are a fantastic opportunity to explore Baltimore at an amazing price. Pay $4 for a family of four instead of the regular admissions prices of almost $100!!

Tips to consider:
* Plan to arrive early in the morning to avoid crowds. Last year, the line for the aquarium wrapped around the block when we were leaving the building!
* This is especially true with the Aquarium because the timed ticket entries may be completely gone by mid-morning. There are a limited amount of Aquarium tickets available.
* Dress for the weather. Since you may be outside in line or walking around the Inner Harbor, bring a warm coat and other cold weather accessories as needed. You can always leave these in a locker or coat check while you visit the museum.
* Plan your meals. The restaurants are going to be quite busy this weekend. Make a reservation in advance using Open Table to reduce or eliminate long wait times. You can always modify your reservation using your phone if needed if you need more museum time. Hungry children are not happy children!

The minnies and I plan to go to the aquarium with my friend Johanna and baby Charlotte. The Maryland Science Center and Port Discovery are some of my other favorite kid-friendly museums in Baltimore. My daughters especially enjoy digging for "fossils" at the Maryland Science Center.

Peacock Obsessions!

I'm slightly obsessed with Jonathan Adler's lollipop peacock. Ok, I'm very obsessed with this unusual and fun piece. With space for 22 lollipops, this would be a gorgeous addition and centerpiece to any candy buffet table.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!
Today as I give thanks for the many blessings I have, I'm honored to count my lovely readers as one of them. The one year anniversary of Maryland Pink and Green is almost here and it would not be possible without the kind comments, emails, and support from all of you.
Truly, even if I cannot respond personally to each comment, it means so much to me.
Thanks for joining me on my blog journey. Thanks for reading Maryland Pink and Green, and more importantly, thank you for interacting with me. I've met so many fun and interesting people during this year and look forward to meeting more of you.

Best wishes for a lovely Thanksgiving.

A thankful heart is not only the greatest virtue,
but the parent of all the other virtues.

Free Thanksgiving Printable

Only one more day until Thanksgiving. Is everything ready at your house? Earlier this week, I posted some helpful tips for children for Thanksgiving and many people emailed me to ask for resources and activities for children. As I was searching for fun activities for children (and making a few of my own!) I found the most adorable printables that will delight both children and adults at Thanksgiving this year.

The best part is that this printable is free!

The printable chain of thanks from Silverbox allows each guest to write words of thanks on a strip of paper.

Here's how I plan to use this gorgeous template. Each guest will receive a strip of paper at the place setting, used as a unique and elegant napkin ring. Before dinner has ended, guests will write their messages of thanks and the slips will be read aloud. My daughters will then glue the strips (using double sided tape) into a garland that will decorate the living room. Everyone in the family is involved in this special activity. I have a feeling that this is going to become a tradition. Click here for the template. Silverbox has so many beautiful creations!

How will you use these beautiful designs?

What family traditions do you have to give thanks on Thanksgiving?

Holiday Manners for Children

Holidays are a happy occasion that often result in stress for parents for children. Lots of activity, food, movement, and stimulation are a change to most children's routines. And all moms know what that means...potential for meltdowns. Nobody ever wants a meltdown, but you really want to avoid the drama filled meltdown on Thanksgiving in front of family. (And your mother in law!)

At the same time, that does not mean that parents should cater to ever whim of a child simply because it is a holiday. A few simple guidelines can help make your Thanksgiving a pleasant and enjoyable experience for everyone, even at the children's table!

via

1. Dress for the occasion. It's amazing how children instantly act like ladies and gentlemen when they are wearing more formal clothing. Nice pants and a dress shirt are great for boys. A smocked dress or jumper is appropriate for girls.

Chasing Fireflies dress

2. It's ok to be excused from the table. Normally, I expect that my children remain at the table until everyone has finished the meal. But at lengthy dinners like Thanksgiving, adults often enjoy conversation and drinks long after the plates have been cleared. Allow children to be excused from the table when the meal is finished. Having age appropriate "quiet activities" like coloring pages or books is an excellent way to keep children entertained.

via

3. Table talk. Encourage children to talk with other adults at Thanksgiving. Eye contact is important as are saying "please" and "thank you." Parents can suggest conversation topics like school, sports, or other activities to children before the meal.

4. You don't have to like everything. Even as adults, we don't always like all of the food that is served to us. Children should try food (unless there is a food allergy) and know what to do if they do not wish to eat something that is served to them in a polite manner, without making faces of disgust!

P.S. Obviously, my tips are focused on younger children, but I do have one thing to add for parents of teens. No texting or phones at the Thanksgiving table. Please.

Have a wonderful day! Are you getting ready for Thanksgiving?

This offer is valid today from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m.

You'll probably be surprised to learn that I'm not a coffee drinker.

But the holiday and seasonal specialty drinks from Starbucks are the ultimate indulgence.

My favorite is the peppermint hot chocolate!

50 Free Holiday Cards from Shutterfly

Shutterfly is my go-to place for fun, modern designs for cards and other personalized photo items. In the past, I have ordered photo books from Shutterfly to give as gifts. Our trip to Disney was showcased in a lovely photo book and serves as a souvenir of the highlights of our trip. Another way that I love to use photo books is to chronicle the year in the lives of my twin girls. They are growing up so quickly, and a photo book can re-tell the story of a year with school, holidays, dance recitals, birthday parties, and more, all in one package.

Fried Pink Tomato posted a special deal for bloggers the other day, so I took a look at Shutterfly’s options for Christmas and holiday cards and was so impressed with the designs. Bloggers can get 50 Free Cards for blogging about their experience with Shutterfly. Find out all of the details here!

The square cards are a unique twist on the traditional card and are my favorites in the collection. I love the Merry Plaid Christmas card. Besides preppy pink and green, my favorite color in the winter is plaid!

This spring, my daughters will celebrate their First Holy Communion. Wouldn’t this make a delightful invitation for the spring celebration?

There is a special for free shipping on orders of $30 or more with the code SHIP30 right now and many designs are on sale.

Picture Perfect Tips
Now that you've found the perfect card, you're probably wondering which picture to use. There's no need to take a picture specifically for the Christmas card. I love to use gorgeous pictures from other celebrations during the year. Beach pictures are at the top of my list.

Black and white or sepia tone pictures also work really well with Holiday cards, especially cards that have a pattern or decorative border. Wearing light colored tops (even a plain white t-shirt will do) against a light background will really highlight your little darlings' faces and look fantastic in the card.

Personality! Choose a picture that captures the personality of your children. A great smile or even a precious pout will make a memorable card.

Happy card shopping!

Groupon: Not Just Local Deals

Groupon is such a great resource for finding local deals and discounts. I've found tickets to sporting events, restaurant certificates, and theater tickets at fantastic discounts of 50% or more on Groupon. In addition to local deals, I always look for groupons in cities where I am planning a vacation and usually have many certificates and activities pre-paid before the trip. Most of these sales only last a day or two, so you need to act quickly to make your purchase.

But did you know that there are many Groupons that are online? No matter where you live, you can buy the offer. Many offers allow you to apply the groupon towards shipping. Simply click on the city that is hosting the offer and make your purchase. You'll receive a confirmation and will be able to use your voucher or code usually withing 24 hours of purchase.

Here is a sampling of what I found for today, 11/18/10:

* $25 for $50 of American Apparel clothing and accessories. For in store use in stores nationwide. When I was looking for teal blue tights last year to match my Lilly Pulitzer Seamus Jubilee dress, American Apparel was the place to find them.(Baltimore)

* $10 for $20 Worth of Decadent Sweets at Chocolate.com. For online use. You can use the groupon for shipping, too! My top pick is the lovely assortment of Thanksgiving cookies from A Dozen Eggs, one of my favorite cookie vendors. (Dallas-nearby deal)

* $30 for $50 Worth of Floral Goods from Touched By Flowers ($60 Total Value) Use online to send holiday flowers to friends and family. This is a true bargain because shipping is included! Where can you send flowers with shipping for $30? What makes this deal even sweeter is that a portion of the cost will be donated to a charity of your choice. The Persian violets are a perfect choice for almost any occasion. (Kansas City-online deal)

If you're not already a member of Groupon, use this link to sign up today. Share the good deals with your friends, too!

Have a wonderful day! It's almost Friday!

PartyLite and Giveaway

PartyLite's motto is: “Light a candle, and you transform the moment.”

What better way to celebrate and transform the moment than the holiday season! This season’s PartyLite ideas bring the scents of holidays into your home to decorate, celebrate, and transform those cherished moments.

I love PartyLite's candles and other fragranced items and am constantly impressed by how well they are made. Wicks stay straight. Candles burn evenly. Fragrance and color is spread throughout even the largest candles. And the burn time is amazing. My aunt is a PartyLite consultant and has me officially hooked on these amazing products.

One of my favorite items is the square 5-wick pillar candle. It has a unique square shape with five points of light to deliver an increased fragrance experience. Burn Time: 75-90 hours. The Party Lite candle measures 6 x 6 inches and is available in 3 festive fragrances; Red- Cinnamon and Bayberry, White- Iced Snow berries, and Green- Spruce In The Snow. This would make an ideal centerpiece for a festive holiday table and provides a substantial amount of light as it evenly burns.

Another favorite of mine are the symmetry pillar holders. PartyLite's site says the "modern blown glass vessel offers clean, simple lines to complement any d├ęcor. Fill the base with dried botanicals or seasonal decorations and place a candle in the removable insert for a finishing touch. Base can also be used as vase." There is a link on the site with many decorating ideas. Perfect for any season!

I'm having a party and wanted to include my online readers in the fun because there are some incredible deals only available to party guests. There are so many special offers available to party guests in November; some are up to 80% off! In addition, for every $40 you spend, you can purchase one item from the catalog at 50% off! This can mean big savings.

To place an order, click the Look Up Your Host tab on this page and enter "Bethany Brown" in the pop up box. Follow the prompts. When you're finished, it should say that your order will count towards my show. Place your orders by midnight on November 28 to be included in the show.

As an extra incentive, I'm going to do a giveaway with the party! For every $25 you order, you'll receive one entry for a prize with a value of $20! The lucky winner's name will be drawn on November 28 and will be announced on November 29.

Happy Shopping!
