Don't Feed the Bad Wolf

An elderly Cherokee Native American was teaching his grandchildren about life… He said to them, “A fight is going on inside me, it is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One wolf is evil—he is fear, anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, competition, superiority, and ego. The other is good—he is joy, peace, love, hope, sharing, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, friendship, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith. This same fight is going on inside you, and inside every other person, too.” They thought about it for a minute, and then one child asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win, Grandfather?” The Elder simply replied, “The one you feed.”

What a perfect story.

Recently, I've seen so many things that make me wonder about myself...and other people. What motivates people to turn their back on friends for greed? What makes people think that it is ok to blatently disregard the rules? What makes people think that it is ok to steal? It's sad to see greed and arrogance in the world. Eventually, the greed and arrogance will destroy person's soul. Perhaps it's not noticeable at the time, but at the risk of using too many cliches, I truly believe that someday, sooner or later, you will reap what you sow.

When I was a little girl, I vividly remember telling my Pappy that some other girls were being mean to me. He told me that they were just jealous and insecure and that I should ignore them. Then he said that if they didn't stop, that I should give them a knuckle sandwich. Ha ha. I love that! But seriously, I can see from the outside that mean people are usually insecure people and that greedy people usually lack something in their own lives, but it is so difficult to have to deal with people like this.

It makes me sad.

And I need to make a choice. I'm not going to feed the bad wolf anymore.

Sorry today's post is not my usual sunshine-y self, but I'm not feeling particularly sunshine-y today.
