The British Embassy in Washington, DC is the largest one in the world and the grounds, residence, and garden are extensive.
The Embassy of the United Kingdom showcased The Best of Britain at this year's open house. Activities for guests young and old delighted guests and highlighed different aspects of British culture. My minnies loved the children's activities and I enjoyed the beautiful gardens. Both girls chose special face painting designs!
Local produce, gardening, honey bees, whisky, and British food were also interesting components of the festival.
The world is talking about the Royal Family and the Royal Wedding and it's certainly been on my mind, too! The embassy set up a lovely tablescape with china, crystal, and silver just like guests would have enjoyed at the Royal Wedding celebration. Although these flowers are taken from the Embassy gardens, the arrangement suits the theme and spirit of the wedding arrangments.
It's interesting to note that all of the British Embassies around the world use the same china pattern.
Here is the menu that guests enjoyed while celebrating Will and Kate's marriage. The desserts sound amazing, don't you think?
Many little girls wearing princess costumes, participated in the Princess Parade with the Embassy princess and could make their own tiaras or color Will and Kate coloring pages. My girls stuck with the face painting this time, because, as Natalia told me, "We are 9, you know!"
The rose garden was absolutely stunning! The symmetrical gardens are hidden treasures behind the Embassy walls. Some of the trees were planted by members of the Royal Family. I could have spent hours here!
I would love to have roses climbing the side of my home...
Natalia wondered why anyone would ever want to use a phone box! My little baby does not know about life before cell phones. There's something sweetly nostalgic about this picture...but sadly, the phone does not work.

This sounds right up my alley! I love visiting embassies and have never been to the British Embassy here in the US! I have had tea at the High Commisioner's residence in India and Panama. In fact, in India we were there just two weeks before Prince Charles visited. We got the grand tour of where he would be staying- such fun!
ReplyDeleteKappa Prep ~ I knew you would love this. So exciting about your adventures in India and Panama. Remember to send your address to me so that I can get something in the mail to you! xoxo
