District Sample Sale: Fall's Most Fashionable Event

The region’s largest shopping event, The District Sample Sale returns for its 11th event this fall on Monday, September 26th.

“In five years, the District Sample Sale has become the premiere shopping event in the region,” boasted the Baltimore Sun (3/28/11). The Fall 2011 location, donated by developer Vornado/Charles E. Smith, is three times larger than other past events. Drawing top designer women’s boutiques from the District, Maryland and Virginia and with attendees coming from over 20 states to each event, the DSS has become a twice-annual pilgrimage for in-the-know shoppers since its founding in 2006.

Two dozen top designer clothing and shoe boutiques will be selling their end-of-season merchandise at discounts up to 90% off, with many previewing upcoming season wares at DSS-exclusive prices. Typical designers that can be found in the racks include Tory Burch, Diane Von Furstenberg, Milly, Shoshanna, and hundreds more.

Of course, my preppy favorites will be there including Sherman Pickey, Sassanova, Simply Soles, and Ginger. Fornash and Queen Bee Designs will be in the accessories pavillion. I need to pick up some clover earrings from Fornash in a few colors since they have been discontinued.

In addition, the District Sample Sale features an accessories pavilion which includes jewelry, accessories and fashion-focused art; cocktails and hors d’oeuvres from area restaurants; hair primping stations from top area salon one80 Salon; lipstick and makeup bars; a fashion-focused silent auction and raffle; and its renowned Georgetown Cupcake dessert bar. A blow dry bar and cupcakes? Heaven!

An all-volunteer organization, The District Sample Sale Foundation donates 100% of its profits to its featured charity and legacy charities each season. Its benefiting charity for fall 2011, WEAVE ,  is one of the few tax-exempt non-profit organizations in the country that provides comprehensive services to domestic violence survivors. WEAVE provides counseling and holistic legal services and representation in CPO matters, domestic relations, employment rights, sexual assault legal remedies, LGBT-specific legal services, and immigration.

“Many online retailers offer discount designer goods,” says DSS co-founder Jayne Sandman “but what is unique about the DSS is the experience that we offer. People can actually try on the clothes and interact with the boutique owners as well as other shoppers. Add martinis, champagne, and great music and you can’t beat it!

Purchase tickets here.  A very reliable source told me that the tickets are flying out the door!  It's going to be a fantastic evening.
