Duck Baby Shower

This weekend, we celebrated my sister’s baby shower. When I started thinking about party themes for her shower, ducks was the first thing that came to mind. Ducks are cute and are appropriate for a little boy or a little girl.

As the party planning evolved, I had to look for ways to incorporate some personal preppy touches and some Lilly, too! For a fun twist, the shower for almost 50 people was for couples and children, not just women. Everyone had fun with the duck scratch off cards hidden under the plates at each place setting, especially the men. The winners were delighted with an oversized yellow duck cookie cutter. Scratch off cards are a fun game for all ages.

The tables were decorated in tones of turquoise, bright yellow and Kelly green.

I have oodles of the skinny cello bags left over from the minnies' birthday party, so I decided to make M & M party favors in blue and yellow. The favor is topped off with a whimsical dual layer duck thanks to my cricut-ing skills.

It's always fun to see what people do with party favors at the party. One fabulous adult guest sang the 3 Little Ducks song to my minnies, using several ducks as props. It was so delightful to watch. The youngest party guests took their little ducks home as toys. My cousin, who is a first year teacher, collected several ducks that she plans to use as pointers or props in her classroom. And of course, everyone enjoyed the candy!

Centerpieces for the tables were simple and inexpensive to create. Fresh cut zinnias in bright orange and yellow are a perfect complement to the blue, green, and yellow décor. I found the little paper ducks at Michael’s and added a bright blue bow to pull in the party theme.

Sunflowers are a perfect choice to decorate the food and cake table. I made these arrangements, too, with flowers, filler, and vases from Wegmans. Do you see the Lilly Pulitzer table cover? It's actually a fabric shower curtain! I used three shower curtains to cover the buffet table.

Everyone loves food at a party! Sandwiches, salad, fruit, and veggies are a perfect light lunch. I transformed this 2 tier stand that I had used for the minnies' First Communion with ribbon from my recent trip to the Offray outlet.

The minnies made chocolate covered marshmallows for the party. They did a fabulous job, don't you think?

A fondant duck family topped the cake. I love the Mommy duck's bow!

On the gift table, a cute polka dotted duck floated in a bright green pool.

It was a wonderful day! My sister and her husband were thrilled to spend time with family and friends. Everyone had a fabulous time.
