Revenge: The Preppiest Show This Season

Save a spot in your weekly schedule for Wednesday nights at 10:00 p.m. I had the opportunity to see the first episode of abc’s new series, Revenge. This show is fantastic. Revenge has everything that a good night time soap opera needs for a winning formula: a great story line, mystery, and intrigue. The amazing preppy wardrobe and costume design and setting in the Hamptons is a bonus!

Normally, I don’t really watch a lot of tv during the week, but to say that I’m excited about the fall television line up is an understatement. Between Pan Am, Charlie’s Angels, and Revenge, I want to watch them all!

Here’s what abc has to say about this new show:

Wealth, beauty and status define the people in this town, but one woman is willing to destroy everyone for the sake of revenge.

Emily Thorne (Emily Van Camp) is new to the Hamptons. She's met some of her wealthy neighbors, has made a few new friends and seemingly blends into the town. But something is a little odd about a young girl living in a wealthy town all on her own, and the truth is that Emily isn't exactly new to the neighborhood. In fact, this was once her old neighborhood, until something bad happened that ruined her family and their reputation. Now Emily is back, and she's returned to right some of those wrongs in the best way she knows how – with a vengeance.

The wardrobe and costume designers perfectly captured the quintessential preppy look for the characters in Revenge. Emily Thorne looks gorgeous in formal looks to everyday wear. A fabulous look is a black ruffle wrap coat with gold buttons that looks very much like my Elizabeth McKay wrap dress. Emily Van Camp also sports a huge gold starfish ring, perhaps Kenneth Jay Lane, in one scene. Even her casual wardrobe of orange sparkly an nautical striped shirt (J Crew?) is stunning when she is enjoying her first day in the summer beach house...and the neighbors first see her.

During the first episode, we learn about Emily’s childhood. What else would a preppy child wear in the Hamptons besides Lilly Pulitzer?

Here are some Lilly Pulitzer goodies that young Emily wears in the first episode of Revenge:

In a flashback, a young Emily plays with her father on the beach in a Grettle swimsuit in Limeade Floaters.

A picture inside a very special keepsake box full of secrets including a letter from her father and a set of journals reveals Emily wearing the Lolly dress in Let Them Eat Cake.

Emily looks adorable wearing the Little Lilly shift dress in Shorely Blue Paint By Numbers as she plays on the beach with her father and meets a young Jack and his adorable puppy.

The other characters are also perfectly dressed. I love Nolan's embroidered Nantucket reds. Charlotte's teeny tiny ikat bikini is perfect for the "Hampton Mean Girl" day at the beach.  Ray Ban sunglasses, huge enamel cuff bracelets, and lots of seersucker are de rigueur in Revenge. I even spotted a party guest wearing the Lilly Pulitzer Wayles dress.

Check out this new series on abc this fall on Wednesdays. I promise that you won't be disappointed.

  1. I actually really want to see this! It's supposed to be so overboard and over-the top! I am also really looking forward to seeing Pan Am... by the creators of West Wing, it seems to be intelligent, creative, well acted (staring Christina Ricci)- of course filled with well dressed Stewardesses, pilots and passengers!

  2. How fun that you got to see a preview of the show. I'm looking forward to seeing Revenge, and Pan Am, too. Of returning shows, I'm watching Parenthood and Grey's Anatomy.

  3. Cant wait! My daughter wore both of those dresses this to see them on the small screen.
