Top 10 Guilty Pleasures

I’m an upstanding member of society. I try my best to be a good mother to my twins, volunteer in my community, teach Sunday School, and usually eat healthy food.

But I have a secret…I indulge in some guilty pleasures…often.

Nothing scandalous or sordid enough to make the local newspaper, but they are guilty pleasures for me. We all have them, right?  Little things that you wouldn't necessarily bring up in ordinary conversation.

It’s time for me to reveal them to you…

Maryland Pink and Green’s Top 10 Guilty Pleasures

1. 80s music: So you all know about my obsession with 80s music. The cheesier, the better. This summer, I’ve had the opportunity to see U2, the Go-Go’s, and INXS in concert and relived some fabulous memories through their music.

2. Toddlers and Tiaras: This show is truly scary, but I watch it "when there is nothing else to watch on tv." The fake teeth, fake hair, fake nails on those poor little girls is so over the top. And the mothers. Oh. My. Goodness. I love to watch and pretend to be shocked, when I am really expecting to see a circus with that show. Those mothers should be ashamed. Yes, I’m totally judging them.

3. Facebook: Facebook is a fabulous way to keep in touch with family and friends, but it’s also a fantastic way to spend a lazy afternoon. I waste entirely way too much time on Facebook, even though I don’t play any games. One snow day I spent refreshing pages between facebook, twitter, ebay, and pinterest...I needed the rest after shoveling snow.

4. Movie Popcorn: At least one guilty pleasure of mine had to relate to food. Everyone knows that movie popcorn has a zillion calories and grams of fat in it, but oh, is it good! A little bit isn’t so bad, every once in a while, right?

5. Blond Brownies: My mother used to make the best blond brownies for me when I was a little girl. It was such a special treat that I still enjoy today. Regular brownies are great, but blond brownies are amazing. MMMmmmm.

6. Gossip Magazines and TV: Is it bad that I love to hear the latest celebrity and wanna-be celebrity gossip from TMZ and US Weekly? After all, sometimes TMZ releases a story before the regular news outlets and they are accurate! Part of the fun of getting a pedicure or my hair blown out is catching up on the “news.”

7. Singing in the Car: See #1. Imagine that you are driving beside me on the highway. I’m singing at full volume in the car and I don’t care who sees me. Singing in the car makes me so happy. Some songs just beg to be sung loudly!

8. Lilly Pulitzer McKim Sandals: This sandal is the official shoe of the summer. I think I have this in every color and variation imaginable...patent, leather, textured. McKims are fabulous and match everything. You know what Lilly says, "Too much is never enough!"

9. Watching My Children When They Sleep: Ever since the twincesses were babies, I enjoyed and still love to watch them while they sleep. They’re so peaceful, so beautiful, so perfect. Sometimes I’ll wake up in the middle of the night and just go in to check on them…even though they are ten years old. They are my maximum joy in life!

10. Patriotic Holidays:  Fireworks, flags, and fun are things that I always associate with patriotic holidays like Memorial Day and the 4th of July.  I love an old fashioned small town parade with local high school bands and kids throwing candy from a float.  Whenever I hear the 1812 Overture and see fireworks bursting in the sky, I usually get a tear in my eye.  It makes me feel happy and proud.

Now it's your turn. What are some of your guilty pleasures?

xoxo

  1. I didn't know you were also a Toddlers and Tiaras fan, too! We joke about adopting a baby, naming her Precious Demure Falls and putting her on the pagent circuit.

  3. Reality TV is my pitfall. I join in with everyone and say how bad it is, but I find myself not getting enough of the Kardashians. Haha.
