Guilt Free Halloween Candy

My house is bursting at the seams with candy!! Between the girls’ two trick or treat bags from Halloween and our loot from Boo at the Zoo, I have a lot of choices if I want to have a piece of candy. Since I have zero willpower, it’s a tricky time of year for me. Although I’d be happy to eat a fun size Take 5 bar as a morning, afternoon, and evening snack, there are some better choices that don’t completely ruin a diet.

Loot bag #1

Generally speaking, hard candy and sweet chewy or crunchy candy have less calories and fat than chocolate candy bars, especially candy bars with peanuts and peanut butter.

Here are some sweet treats that have 50 calories or less!

diet saving halloween snacks

Here are some diet saving snacks from your favorite Halloween bag!

1. Wonka Nerds have 50 calories and less than 1 gram of fat.
2. A fun size York Peppermint Patty has 50 calories and 1 gram of fat.
3. Enjoy a Dum Dum Lollipop for only 20 calories and 0 grams of fat.
4. Like Peeps? You'll love the Pumpkin Peeps at only 16 calories per peep and 0 grams of fat.
5. Tootsie Roll miniatures are another classic treat with about 25 calories per midget.
6. Lemonheads have 50 calories and 0 grams of fat in a fun size box.

You can also donate extra Halloween candy.  My daughter Alexia has a wonderful  plan for our leftover candy and candy that we are collecting from others.  She has organized Operation Sweet Tooth and is collecting non-chocolate candy (lollipops, Jolly Ranchers, Starburst, Twizzlers, etc.) to package and send to our troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Five large boxes of candy, notes of well wishes, and other goodies have already been sent to Iraq.  She is working on more boxes to send to Afghanistan on November 5.  It's a great way to involve children in a good cause and I am proud of her for doing this.

What are you doing with your extra Halloween candy?  What Halloween treats are your favorites?

xoxo

  2. Good luck with the self control...candy is my weakness! I adore Yorks and always justify them as healthy candy. That’s very sweet to share your sweets with the troops! xx
