Really, car rental guy?

Traveling is always amusing to me. And there are always lots of funny stories to tell after a trip. My recent experience at the car rental counter with my friend Charity was particularly amusing. We arrived in Palm Beach at the Rental Car counter to get a car for our weekend visit to celebrate Lilly Pulitzer's 80th birthday.

Here’s how the conversation went…

Car guy: “Good afternoon, ladies! I have the perfect car for you. You’re going to love it. It’s just your style and is perfect for a girls’ weekend.”

Me: “Oh that’s wonderful. What kind of car is it?”

Car guy: “A Challenger.”

Me: “Well, I’m not familiar with that car. I’m not sure what it looks like.”

Car guy: “Oh, I think I have a picture of it.” He fumbles around with some papers in his desk and is trying to find a picture of the car. “I can’t seem to find the picture, but trust me; it’s the perfect car for you.”

Me: “I’d really like to see what it looks like. Maybe we should just go to the lot to choose a car.”

Car guy: “You’re going to love it. It’s the car from the Dukes of Hazard.”

Really, car rental guy? Do I look like the kind of person wants to roll around Palm Beach looking like the Dukes of Hazard? No, I didn’t think so, either.  Maybe I'm boring, but I didn't want the Dukes of Hazard car.

We ended up going to the lot to choose our car from the only four cars that were available in the lot. Must have been a busy weekend in Palm Beach.  The little shuttle ride over to the car rental lot was also pretty amusing, too, but that's a story for another day!

What funny travel stories do you have?

xoxo

LOL, I can imagine you both in your Lilly attire cruising around Palm Beach in the Dukes of Hazzard car.

That's so funny! Being from South Florida, you can always pick out the tourists by their rental cars (such as a convertible seabring with the top down in the dead heat of summer). But the Challenger, not sure what to think about that. I am 100% positive that it was not the car for you though! Too funny!

Ha! I wonder how many times he tried to sell the car like that!

They tried to upsell me a Camaro, which may have been nice, but I actually enjoyed my little Hyundai. It was great for lots of parallel parking...and when I got home my Pilot felt enormous!

Hi Whitney,

NO! We didn't get that car. We ended up with a perfectly acceptable little 4 door sedan. No muscle cars for me.

Have a great day!
