A Taste of Maryland

Recently I created a theme basket for a DAR fundraiser. Our chapter house is Roland Park in Baltimore, Maryland is a stunning Queen Anne style home that was built in 1892, the same year that the DAR was founded in the State of Maryland. It is lovingly maintained by the Maryland Daughters through donations and fundraising.

The basket that I created was sold at a live auction at a party for DAR members with the proceeds from the auction going to benefit the Roland Park chapter house. Every chapter makes a basket with a different theme. You may remember that last year, I chose a Preppy Pink and Green theme for the basket. This year, the theme was A Taste of Maryland.

When I first thought about this theme, I knew that I wanted lots of patriotic colors and yummy treats from the State of Maryland.  Instead of using a basket, I chose a Picnic at Ascot insulated cooler that comes complete with preppy blue gingham plates, napkins, and silverware

The two most popular items in the basket were the seven layer cake from Caroline’s Cakes and the signed print of the Preamble to the Constitution. In the movie, The Help, you can see a cake from Caroline’s Cakes in one of the scenes. Their famous Caramel Cakes are pure heaven.

Some of my favorites from the basket are...

- Maryland Viognier wine
- Triple Crown Preserves, a blue ribbon award winning blend of strawberry, red raspberry, and cherry preserves and a salute to the second gem of the Triple Crown, The Preakness.

Here's a printable I designed for the basket.

I really enjoy selecting items for the basket every year and am happy to work to benefit such a worthy cause.

What are some local specialties where you live?

xoxo
