The American's Creed

by William Tyler Page

I believe in the United States of America as a government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed, a democracy in a republic, a sovereign Nation of many sovereign States; a perfect union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice, and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.

I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its Constitution, to obey its laws, to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies.

National Defense Night at DAR Constitution Hall
William Tyler Page's submission to a patriotic contest provides a powerful expression of American political faith.  One way that I honor and serve my country is through my work with the Daughters of the American Revolution.

At this year's Continental Congress, I was honored to serve as a page.  The volunteer experience was very rewarding and I learned so much about the patriotic goals of this organization.  The presentations, award winners, and committee meetings made me think about how I can honor and support my country.

Although I was working from the first business meeting to the last awards gala and didn't have many opportunities to take pictures on my own, here are a few pictures that I will treasure from this experience.

Constitution Hall looked spectacular!

The library is an incredible source of information and many members took this opportunity to conduct research.

I think that fellow Marylander William Tyler Page would have liked the Maryland Room at NSDAR.

On a lighter note, patriots can still be fashionable, right?  As a page, I wore a white Lilly Pulitzer dress every day.  Maryland Pink and Green reader Catherine also served as a page (congratulations on 10 years of service!) and looked fantastic in her Lilly, too!  Here I am in the Shauna dress.

As you celebrate Independence Day today, may the words of the American Creed resonate with you.  How do you show that you love your country, support its Constitution, obey its laws, to respect its flag, and defend it against all enemies?

Happy 4th of July!
