5 Pink Preppy Stocking Stuffers

When we were little girls, my sister and I used to wake up very early on Christmas morning to see the goodies inside of our stockings.  Santa always left our stockings hung outside of our door and we knew that we could open all of the little surprises in there, letting our parents get just a little bit more sleep before the official Christmas festivities began.

With everything from Bonnie Bell Lip Smackers to pretty earrings, the stockings were such a delight to open!    Usually every individual gift in the stocking was wrapped in paper or a small pouch.  Pretty wrapping added a bit of mystery to the situation and made the stocking even more exciting to explore.

To this day, I enjoy shopping for stocking stuffer treats and putting together unique and original ideas for this special gift!

Here are some of my favorite stocking stuffer ideas in preppy pink!  These perfectly preppy stocking stuffers are sure to thrill your favorite peep this Christmas.

Lilly Pulitzer's pencil pouch in May Flowers is perfect for makeup, pencils, or any other small object.  You could even tuck a Bonnie Bell Lip Smackers in there just for a bit of nostalgia.

Everyone loves Wellies, but they won't fit in your stocking!  Pick up some triple milled soap shaped like a pair of Pink Wellington Boots.  Wouldn't this look adorable in a guest bathroom?

Since it's the end of the year, it's always a good time to stock up on monogrammed stationery.  These preppy monogrammed note pads and gift tags from mcc designs are a delightful and personal gift that shows that you put some effort into carefully choosing a gift.

Protect yourself and your friends from identity theft with the pink Guardstamp Guard Your ID Mini Roller.  The roller uses a combination of numbers and letters to mask your personal information on receipts, bills, and mail.

You can never have too many bangle bracelets!  Stack them and mix and match patterns, colors, and textures to add a pop of color to your winter outfit.  I love this pink Zebra Bangle Bracelet.  So pretty!

Vlog: 5 Ways to Tie a Murfee Scarf

Hello!  Today I'm sharing my first video blog with you.  To be honest, it's tough to make a video because I don't want you to think that I'm silly and appearing on video scares me.  But I took the plunge and made a video tutorial with my iPhone.

Here's first vlog to learn 5 different ways to tie a Lilly Pulitzer Murfee Scarf.  I don't know about you, but I wear Murfees almost all year long.  It's an easy way to add a pop of color to any outfit and they're great for traveling.

After you watch the video, please take a minute and show me some love with a comment on this blog post.  I'm so nervous about being on video!

How do you tie your Murfee scarf?  What is your most treasured Murfee?  My favorite Murfee is Bright Navy Checking In!

The Look for Less: J. Crew Minnie

One pair costs $90.  The other costs $20.  Find out how to get the look for less!

When something fits me well, I tend to buy it in every color possible.  At 5'4" on a good day with lots of curves, it's particularly difficult to find pants that are a good length and fit for me.  I've been loving the J. Crew Minnie pants for a while and end up getting at least one color every season.  But the price of the Minnies stops me from buying them in bulk.

Oh yes, I could write an ode to these perfect pants.  They stretch perfectly to fit without stretching out in an hour and hit just at the ankle.  Love.  But $90+ for everyday pants is not in the budget.

When I discovered the Winnie pants at J. Crew Factory, I was thrilled!  The price point is a little bit better than the Minnie pants, at about 20% less than the regular retail price.  I have both Minnie and Winnie pants.  They fit exactly the same and the quality is comparable.  I can tell the difference only by looking at the tag; outlet tags from J. Crew have a diamond on them, J. Crew store tags do not have a diamond.

But imagine my surprise and delight when I found the same style of pant in the same fit for a fantastic price this weekend at Target!   Enter the Mossimo Ankle Stretch Pant (Fit 3), which is a dream pant.  The pants fit exactly like the Minnie/Winnie and have a look that is similar to the Cafe Capri with side pockets that are sewn shut and a button waist.  Available in a wide array of colors, you can afford to buy multiples at an amazing price of $20.

Move Over Black Friday

Move over, Black Friday, it's Small Business Saturday!  Hopefully you've recovered from the big box shopping adventures in search of electronic gizmos and gadgets that seem to fill the wish lists of many children this year and you're ready to show some love to your favorite small businesses.

American Express launched Small Business Saturday in 2010 to "help small businesses get more exposure during one of the biggest shopping weekends of the year."  Over 100 million people supported this day by shopping at independently-owned small businesses. This year, Small Business Saturday is expected to be even bigger.

If you're an American Express cardholder, you can get a one time credit of $25 when you spend $25 or more at a participating business.  Register for this special deal and start shopping!

I love the personalized experience of shopping with a small business.  In many cases, you're dealing with the owner of the store every time you shop.  Little notes, special orders, and a friendly hello make the shopping experience so pleasant.

Here's a shout out to some of my favorite small businesses, in addition to those I highlighted in yesterday's Black Friday post.

Purseladytoo is offering free shipping today!

Monkee's of Fredericksburg has 25% off of the entire store including Elizabeth McKay, Lilly Pulitzer, Tory Burch, and more!  Call them at 540-368-2111.

Teresa Horesta Rendi Style has beautiful options for personalized gifts, including many options with a photo.

My friend Ellen is the owner of Chic to Chic.  If you're in Maryland, be sure to visit her stores!  You can find lots of pre-owned designer clothing at amazing prices.  She has an entire section of Lilly and there's always lots of Tory Burch, Tibi, Alice + Olivia and more.  Her selection of handbags and shoes is also TDF.

Sherman Pickey thanks customers for their support with 20% off your purchase today.  Get an extra 5% off your purchase for referring a friend.  They have lots of Elizabeth McKay, including this clutch. P.S.  Be sure to tell Ethan that I sent you!

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving! How are you celebrating today?  I'm going to spend the day with my immediate and extended family at a large gathering of about 30 people.  It's a fun, loud, and casual day.  I'm really excited to be able to spend time with my little nephew, David, and the minnies are eager to play with their cousin.

Thank you for reading my blog, for your emails, and for your comments. They mean the world to me! Interacting with you helps me get to know my readers and I am blessed to have formed many friendships with many of you.

Best wishes today and always; I'm looking forward to more pink and green excitement in the future.

P.S. Stay tuned for a Lilly Pulitzer giveaway tomorrow!

Thanksgiving Hostess Gifts

How are you spending Thanksgiving this year?  If you're like me and you're the guest this year instead of the hostess, you'll need to bring a small gift to the Thanksgiving festivities.

Here are some of my top choices for Thanksgiving Hostess Gifts!

Flowers are a lovely gift for any time of the year.  Bring flowers to the hostess in a vase with a pretty ribbon. Alternatively, you could use a pumpkin or basket as a vase.  Whatever you do, make sure the flowers are presented in a container so the hostess does not have to worry about arranging the flowers on such a busy day.  It's even better if you send the flowers a day in advance if possible, so that they brighten the Thanksgiving table!

These are the flowers I'm planning to bring to Thanksgiving dinner.

Wine is always a brilliant choice for a hostess gift.  You can simply tie a bow or ribbon at the top of the bottle for an easy presentation.  If you're traveling, regional wine brings a treat of your home to the hostess.  These are some of my favorite Virginia wines.  The sparkling Viognier from Horton Vineyards is a particularly unique option made in the methode Champenoise.

Breaux,  Barboursville, Williamsburg

If wine isn't your style, perhaps spirits would be in order.  If the hostess loves everything from old school crystal to a shiny disco ball, she'll love this limited edition bottle from Absolut.  Although Absolut has often changed the print on the bottle, this is the first time they have actually changed the bottle itself.  Absolut Glimmer is made of pressed glass that mirrors the elegant look of cut crystal.  At only $19.99, it makes a dramatic gift at a small price.

Since colonial times, the pineapple has served as a beautiful symbol of hospitality, warmth, and style!  Show your appreciation for the hostess and her Thanksgiving hospitality with this pineapple cheese board from C. Wonder.  It's a gift that she's sure to use repeatedly throughout the year, fondly remembering you every time she presents it to guests.

C. Wonder

Although I don't bring food to a party unless the hostess asks me to do so, gifts of gourmet food or special spices or condiments are always enjoyed long after the hostess finishes the turkey leftovers.  Local treats are always a favorite.  Where I live, flavored butters, jellies, and other preserves are a local delicacy.  Pick a few favorites to put in a basket and it's a delightful gift.

McCutcheon's Pumpkin Butter is so delicious on toast or bread and adds flavor to many common recipes.  I also love the Triple Crown Preserves.

How are you celebrating Thanksgiving this year?  Are you the hostess or a guest?  What hostess gift will you bring if you are a guest?

House is in the Bag

By overwhelming majority, fans on Facebook and Blogger chose the pink beaded Lilly Pulitzer Kaya dress for last night's charity event.  My friend Leesa and I are both rocking our Lilly for the House is in the Bag, a benefit for Habitat for Humanity.

The event was a fabulous opportunity to socialize and shop for a good cause.  We had a large group of almost a dozen ladies!  It's a fun girls night out, although there were a few gentlemen in attendance.  100% of the proceeds help local families build their houses!  I love it that all of the money stays in the community.

The decor of the event was fun and colorful!

We enjoyed delicious food and drinks as we sipped and shopped the silent auction, raffle, and grab bag items.  I especially loved the crab dip and the cupcakes!  I chose a few grab bags for the minnies and they were tickled when they saw their goodies this morning.

Another popular activity was a treasure box.  Ladies purchased keys and crossed their fingers as they tried the key in the lock of a treasure chest that contained diamond jewelry and Tiffany necklaces.

Many ladies had their hair woven into original and beautiful braids at the Braiding Bar from Trinity Salon and Spa.

The highlight of the evening was the Live Auction, led by the Singing Auctioneer, Anne-Lynn Gross.  Bags from Louis Vuitton, Kate Spade, See by Chloe, Longchamps, and more dazzled the audience.  As if the bags were not enough incentive to bid, many of them contained extra goodies, gift certificates, or items.  I had my eye on a bag with an overnight stay to Nemacolin until I lost a bidding war, started by my friend!

It was a lovely evening for a wonderful cause and I'm already looking forward to next year's event!

Which Dress Should I Wear?

Good morning!  Today I'm asking you to help me choose a dress to wear to a charity event tonight.

In an effort to be frugal and take advantage of my closet that has plenty of options, I didn't shop for a new dress for tonight's event.  But now, I'm facing the dilemma that many fashionistas face.  I have so many options of special clothes that I rarely get to wear, that I don't know which one I like best for tonight.  Does this happen to you?  Tell me I'm not alone in this.  You'll stare at your gorgeous closet without a clue about what to wear.  Story of my life.

I've narrowed the dress selection down to three options.  I'd wear tall gold stilettos with the gold dress and put on my gold stretchy Lilly Pulitzer critter belt from last year.  The pink dress does not really need too many accessories; I'm thinking black sequined pumps would be fabulous.  And the black and gold dress would look great with gold shoes and a statement necklace.  The bonus with the black and gold is that I could always throw on a gold Babs wrap if it's really chilly.

Take a minute and leave a comment to let me know which dress you like the best!

Thanks for your input.
