Kayce Hughes Trunk Show

Spring is almost here!  Now is the perfect time to look for an outfit for Easter or any spring event.  From now until Sunday, March 3, I'm collaborating with my friends at Kayce Hughes for a special trunk show open to Maryland Pink and Green readers.

Here are some of my favorite picks from Kayce Hughes' newest collection.  First on the list is the Willa Ruffle Dress.  The pretty pink color is a perfect choice for spring and the ruffles are gorgeous without being too cute.

The Lyndal Dress is another fantastic option.  I love the look of the crisp white denim and with the pineapple trim print.  Details such as blue piping on the tie sash really add flair to this dress.

Gingham is always a wonderful look for any occasion.  The Basic Button Down Dress is an excellent transition piece for early spring.  I also like the red, white, and blue look for patriotic holidays like Memorial Day.

The Goodman Dress is based on a vintage style.  The grosgrain trim and elastic waist make this versatile dress comfortable and classic.

My minnies want the Sleeveless Tunic Dress in the Pink Pineapple print.  It's a style that is very grown up for tweens, but the classic style makes moms smile.

The Party Dress with Heart Smocking is an adorable choice for your favorite little girl.  There's something about little girls in smocked dresses that melts my heart.

As a special treat for Maryland Pink and Green readers, Kayce Hughes is offering free shipping with your purchase of $200 or more. Simply enter the Promotional code: maryland and Trunk Show ID: 76165 to take advantage of this opportunity.

Great Spring Finds

The promise of spring is always a great time to pick up a few goodies to brighten your day and your wardrobe.  Today I'm sharing a few of my favorite picks from a recent shopping trip.

The fish bangle bracelet is a pretty combination of bright blue jewel tones that will match everything in your spring and summer wardrobe.  At $12, the bracelet is quite a bargain!

The orange tiger bangle bracelet is adorable, too!  It's never too early to think about additions to a game day ensemble.

Pink treats for spring are so delicious and fun!  In addition to the Pink Lemonade cake mix, I also picked up some Key Lime Pie flavored cake mix.  Yummy!

Whenever I see adorable little dresses like these pink and green lovelies, I wish that my minnies were still little girls!

Visit your local Target store to see this and more!  Happy-Almost-Spring!

Tea for Three

There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea. ~ Henry James, The Portrait of a Lady

Two of my dear friends enjoyed afternoon tea with me this weekend.  We went to the Serenity Tea Room, a delightful tea room that seats around 20 people.  The extensive tea menu features over 50 different herbal, green, and black teas.  Unlike other tea rooms I've visited in the past, you are able to try more than one type of tea at Serenity.  With every new pot of tea, you can choose a new flavor to enjoy.

We decided to do the High Tea option that added a bowl of homemade soup to the meal.  Although it was difficult to choose between butternut squash, white chicken chili, and tortilla soup, I choose the tortilla soup that had a nice bite to it.

Then the three tier tower of treats arrived at our table to tempt our senses.

The savory tea sandwiches lined the first layer of the tray.  We each sampled six different sandwiches.  My favorite was the chicken salad sandwich.  There were traditional cucumber sandwiches, heart shaped pesto crostinis, turkey sandwiches, egg salad, and more.  All of the pastries, sandwiches, jellies, jams, and scones are made in house.

The cherry white chocolate scone was amazing!  We chose a selection of mixed berry jam, lemon curd, and traditional clottted cream to accompany the delicious scones.

Anyone who thinks that tea is a light meal underestimates the power of tiny sandwiches!  By the time we were ready to sample the top tier of sweets, I was getting full.  But luckily I managed to find room for these delicious tarts, tea cookies, and chocolate covered strawberries.   The best tart was a chocolate avocado mousse in a crispy tart shell.  Pure heaven.

It was a lovely afternoon spent with sweet friends.  Tea is one of my favorite simple pleasures.

Pink Gifts

Recently I participated in Hopsy's pink swap and was paired with the fabulous Melissa!  Here are some of the sweet pink surprises that she sent to me.

All of the packages were beautifully wrapped.  If you're not familiar with Melissa's work, you can see some of her preppy tags at her Etsy store

Love!

The minnies were thrilled with their little surprises, too!

Do you spy my new monogram?  So exciting!

I was overwhelmed and spoiled by her kindness!  Many thanks to Melissa for your generosity and thanks to Hopsy for organizing such a fun swap.

Help Choose Table Numbers

Wedding planning is going really well!  My dress arrived and I had the first fitting last week; that was so exciting! Now it's down to the little details like printables, that can actually be the most fun.

Today I want to ask for your input.  Here are a few options for the table numbers.  Please take a moment to leave a comment to let me know which one you like the most.  As you may remember, the color story for the wedding is navy blue and hot pink, accented by a deep Matisse blue and silver.

Do you think I should put the table numbers in a frame or display them in some other way?  I'd love to hear your ideas.

Happy Friday!

Valentine's Day Classroom Fiesta

My AP Spanish students are working so diligently to prepare for the AP test in May.  The 19 students in the class are taking a high school course that is equivalent to a 300 level college course in Spanish.  The workload for them (and me!) is a daunting task, but the positive attitude of the students and their dedication to Spanish makes the course a joy to teach.

So whenever I can add a little bit of fun to the rigor of the daily activities, I happily take that opportunity.

Students enjoyed Valentine's Day treats with some printables in Spanish while practicing their reading and listening comprehension.

Here's a little glimpse of the party...

Happy Valentine's Day to you!!  Wishing you a wonderful day.

Chic Nautical & Preppy Decor

It's always fun to search for fun nautical and preppy treasures.  Recently I hit the jackpot with so many delightful items that I simply had to share my finds with you.

These elegant starfish measure about 4 inches in diameter.  I think they would look so pretty scattered in a huge glass vase or bowl.

The nautical lanterns are perfect for any deck, patio, or beach house.  Fill them with sand and a few shells that you collected on your last trip to the beach for an original display.

Coral just screams resort chic, don't you think?  I picked up a few of these and am thinking about spray painting them.

Alexia fell in love with this whimsical party hat!  At only $1.99, you can buy one for every party guest.  It's a great addition to your tablescape.

Little pink and green gingham frames are perfect for gifts for friends or a children's room.  Both of my girls said that this reminded them of their (old) Pottery Barn Kids decor that they have outgrown.

An elephant?  And it's green?  Oh yes!  What a fun conversational piece for casual decor.  Want to know the best part?  The small elephant table was only $24.99!

You can find all of these treasures and more at Christmas Tree Shops.  Plan to spend a good amount of time there; I had a cart full of goodies.

Fit Guide: Lilly Pulitzer Spring

The latest delivery from Lilly Pulitzer's Spring collection went live on February 10.  I had the opportunity to try on a few of these pieces at the Tysons Galleria Lilly Pulitzer Store and am here with the full fit guide for you.  It's tough to shop online or by phone without trying on the pieces individually, so here are a few of my observations along with my favorite spring items to date.

The Briella dress in Flutter Blue Chin Chin is fabulous.  The stretchy Posh Ponte is so flattering and won't wrinkle.  I love the little cap sleeves that just cover the shoulder.  I paired with with an adorable belt with a grosgrain belt.  The dress is sized XS-XL.  I'm wearing a size small.  The dress is incredibly comfortable.

The Nina Dress in Multi Chin Chin is a return to the Lilly Pulitzer roots that I know and love.  The print is so quintessentially Lilly and I love the lace detailing.  The dress is as comfortable as my old shift dresses, but has an updated shape that flatters.  The dress fits true to size; this is a size 4.  I did try on a 6 in this dress to see if I wanted more room in the hips, but it was big everywhere and the smaller size was much more flattering.

Here's the Laidley Dress in Neon Pink Metallic Boucle.  This dress is fabulous for any special occasion you'll have this spring.  The sheath dress is fitted and flattering, but not over the top.  Pair it with the matching jacket and it's a perfect look for Easter Sunday, a wedding, or other special event.  The dress runs true to size, but you may want to size up if you have a larger chest.  I'm wearing a size 4.

The Nina Dress in Pretty Pink Tootie is another one of my favorites.  The scalloped hem is precious and the bows at the back zipper are a fun and unexpected surprise.  SO pretty!  The dress fits just like the other Nina dress I tried.  Here I'm wearing a size 4.

The Posey Dress from Lilly Pulitzer will make you want to twirl!  The fit and flare silhouette is so figure flattering and is perfect in every way.  The skirt is fully lined and even has a bit of a ruffle crinoline type lining that gives the dress so much movement when you walk...or twirl.  The dress fits true to size.  This is a size 4.  The white Posey Dress would be gorgeous for a graduation.

I'm also loving the horoscope print and saw lots of people purchasing dresses for Mommy and Minnie matching look.

Without any doubt, my favorite spring print is Multi Pop.  The framed Sutton Square Scarf is an adorable work of art.  I'm not sure how I would wear a square scarf without hiding the gorgeous print, so I'm going to hold off for a Murfee or other item in this print.

First 50+ People

I'm a morning person and am used to getting up before 5 a.m. everyday, so arriving at the Lilly Pulitzer Tysons Galleria store at 10 a.m. for their Grand Opening celebration was always my plan.  I did take a moment to stop to get a croissant and was surprised to see a line of about 50 people waiting to get into the store at 10 a.m.

The friendly peeps at Lilly Pulitzer opened the doors just a minute or two before ten and the Lilly Lovers immediately started shopping!  I found some goodies including the gorgeous new Moxy Top in Flutter Blue Lucky Stripe Diagonal and found a place in line along with dozens of other people.  It felt just a little bit like a  warehouse sale!

The first 50 people to make a purchase over $100 received a pair of bow earrings as a gift.  You can visit the store today for the second day of their grand opening celebration.  The first 50 $100+ purchases today will also receive a pair of earrings.

This is what I like to call the "Stand in line for me while I shop for more, sweetie" section of the line.

The February 10th delivery is in store and everything is gorgeous.  For the next few months, new deliveries will be arriving almost every two weeks.  So exciting!

To celebrate the grand opening, enjoy a sip of champagne or punch and some yummy cookies while you shop.  Lilly Pulitzer knows how to throw a party!

Enter to win a Lilly Pulitzer cruiser, the perfect summer bicycle!  You may also win one of two original canvases, painted by Lilly Pulitzer Print Designer Ashley.  I love the pretty paint on her palette...it reminds me of yummy frosting for a cupcake!

Ashley is painting two canvases this weekend.  Both of these gorgeous works of art will be given to two lucky winners from the raffle.

She is part of the design team that came to the Tysons Galleria store and painted and designed the dressing room with peaches and the "Party" dressing room, my personal favorite.  Ashley is a doll and chatted with me for a while while she painted.

Here's a full view of the canvas!

If you're around Tysons Galleria today, visit my friends at Lilly Pulitzer.  Lots of surprises, gifts with purchase, raffles, and treats await you!
