An Uber-riffic Way to Travel

Do you Uber?

My first Uber experience impressed me so much that I might never take a cab again in the future. Uber is a venture-funded company that provides transportation service in dozens of cities in the United States and around the world. It's so easy to use!

During my week at Continental Congress, I normally spend a small fortune on cabs and transportation of all kinds. So when I received a code for a free ride from Uber, I decided to give it a try. The service is incredibly easy to use. Sign up for a free account at uber.com. Then download the Uber app for your smartphone.

When you open the app on your phone, you're located on a map with GPS. Choose from different types of vehicles and services according to your own preferences. Almost instantly, your phone is updated with an estimated arrival time, car type, driver information, and license plate number. Maybe I'm a tech nerd, but I loved tracking the driver as he was traveling. As soon as the car arrived, I received a text message that the car was there.

On this particular trip, I selected the Uber Black car. The car was uber clean and had some uber-iffic mints and bottled water in the back seat waiting for me. I continued to follow the route on my app while we were traveling. So cool!

The best part of all is that no money is exchanged during all of this. My credit card information (well, my PayPal, actually) is linked to my Uber account. The billing is done automatically. I got quotes for several of my trips on Uber using the app on my phone. Prices do vary according to the type of car.

As soon as I stepped out of the car, I received an email invoice for the trip.

The service is truly amazing! I'm going to use it when I travel to other cities like New York, Philadelphia, and Baltimore. If you'd like to try Uber the next time you're traveling in a big city, you can get your first ride for free when you sign up using this link.

  1. I've been wanting to try Uber for a while - I have so many friends who use it here in Philadelphia. Thanks for the free ride link!

  2. I used Uber all last week as well. UberX had the 25% discount all summer in DC so it was extremely reasonable and efficient as well. Soooo much better than cabs!
