Zara Blanket Scarf

Usually I don't jump on the bandwagon with the item that everyone seems to have from a particular season. But when I first saw the Zara blanket scarf, I knew that I needed to have it. It's plaid, it's warm, and it's from Zara. What else did I need to convince myself?

With the incredibly cold winter that we're having here in Maryland, I'm actually getting quite a lot of mileage out of this scarf that doubles as a blanket. Really, the scarf is so huge that it will be a great blanket next fall for football games.

Zara Scarf / Talbots Cardigan / Corduroy Pant / Boots

Figuring out how to tie such a large blanket scarf is somewhat of a challenge because it is bulky. I didn't want it to overpower my outfit. Here's how I tied it.

1. Fold the square scarf in half into a triangle.
2. Roll the edge of the triangle until about 12 inches of the scarf remains unrolled. Make sure your roll is fairly small or else it will be bulky around your neck.
3. Put the triangle end in the front and wrap the two ends around your neck. Bring the ends back to the front.
4. Fluff and arrange the scarf.

P.S. In other exciting news, I'm proud to say that I've lost 5 pounds since Christmas. It's been a lot of hard work with clean eating and not cheating. I've also been doing Jillian Michaels' Ripped in 30 workout. I'm still on week 2, but I'm making progress!!

Lilly Pulitzer Estate Sale Bid List!

You may remember that I recently shared the details of the sale of the Property of the Estate of Lilly Pulitzer with you. I would love to own a piece of history and would be content with the most common item that belonged to one of my favorite personalities. Even something as small as a simple plate or a vase would be a treasure. Here are a few of my favorite things from the sale.

Set of Two Chinese Export Garden Seats Elephants? No more needs to be said. These are amazing!

Painted Canvas Whimsical Map of Palm Beach I always love the look of Lilly for wall art. Wouldn't this be a gorgeous print to revive for a shift dress in the future?

White Painted Wicker and Bentwood Desk I imagine that many letters were penned from this stunning desk. Perhaps it would be some good inspiration for blog writing.

Italian Baroque Giltwood Mirror Lately, I've become slightly obsessed with antique mirrors. When John asked me what I wanted for Christmas, I told him that I wanted a mirror. No lie. I did get a stunning mirror for Christmas, but I'm sure that I could find a home for this one, too!

Turquoise Painted Rattan Low Table What a fabulous little table! I imagine this on a covered patio with comfortable printed sofas.

The complete catalog for the estate sale is now available online. You can also order a copy of the print catalogue. Remember that you can bid online or by phone if you're not in the Palm Beach area.

Oranges Everywhere, Even in Your Mixed Drink!

While you're chasing away the winter blues, get a little boost of juice! January is National Citrus Month. I love to pair vibrant orange with neutral hues any time of the year. We just bought a huge box of Clementines in the grocery store to squeeze out a little taste of summer even as the Polar air swirls around us.

Today I have some outstanding orange options for fashion, accessories, and beauty. As an extra special treat, you'll enjoy some delicious and refreshing recipes for orange mango made with Sparkling ICE!

If you're like me and you need a big bag to hold everything, this Nylon Easy Tote is a great choice. You can get it monogrammed, too! Bonus!

Bundle up in the gorgeous Double-cloth Sabrina coat, now on sale for a fabulous price. There's free shipping today only.

A tunic is always a beautiful choice, even if I have to wear a wool coat over it. Wear the Charlotte tunic  now with a pair of Travel Pants.

Wouldn't this Nail Polish be a fun choice for a pedicure? The name is pretty funny, too...A Good Man Darin is Hard to Find.

Sparkling ICE, “a zero calorie naturally flavored sparkling water with vitamins and healthy antioxidants” is so delicious and pairs well with other things.

My favorite recipe is the Orange Mango Mimosa! I tried it for brunch and LOVED it. I plan to serve it at a morning party I'm hosting soon.

Orange Mango Mimosa
Ingredients:
1/3 cup chilled dry champagne
1/3 cup chilled Orange Mango Sparkling ICE
1 tablespoon Grand Marnier or triple sec (optional)

Directions:
Fill the champagne flute 1/2 full with chilled dry champagne. Top with chilled Orange Mango Sparkling ICE. Top mimosa with 1 tablespoon of Grand Marnier or triple sec (optional).

Orange Mango Martini
Ingredients:
1 oz. Tequila
1 oz. Orange Vodka
Juice of 1 Lime
3 oz. Orange Mango Sparkling ICE

Directions: Combine Tequila and Vodka with ice in a shaker. Strain and pour into the chilled martini glass. Top with Orange Mango Sparkling ICE

Sparkling Orange Mango Granita
Ingredients
6 oranges, emptied and shells frozen
1 mango, peeled and pitted
1 bottle of Orange Mango Sparkling ICE
½ cup water
¼ cup sugar

Preparation Cut the oranges in half and scoop out the pulp for later use. A thin layer can be sliced off the bottom of the orange halves to create a flat surface and prevent them from rolling around when serving. Freeze empty orange shells. Note: For easier scooping, roll the oranges by hand before cutting in half, using a firm downward pressure to loosen the pulp.

Directions: Place chopped mango in the bowl of a food processor and process until smooth. Transfer to a medium bowl. Add the water, Sparkling ICE and sugar, and stir to dissolve. Pour mixture into deep-sided metal or glass pan. Place it in the freezer, uncovered. When the top of the liquid forms an icy layer, scrape through entire pan with a fork every 30 minutes. Return to freezer and let another frozen layer form; scrape again with fork. Repeat freezing and scraping steps until all liquid is frozen. Remove from freezer, and scrape surface with the tines of a fork until it is the texture of shaved ice. Fluff with a fork to create soft granita. Repeat this process every 30 minutes for 3 to 4hrs. Put mixture in frozen oranges and serve.

Many thanks to Sparkling ICE for sending the recipes to me along with a few bottles to sample.

Fresh Ingredients & Chef-Designed Meals at Home

Recently an ad for Plated came up on the sidebar of my search engine. I'm so glad that I clicked on the ad because it's a great discovery.

The menu constantly changes, so you'll never get tired of the recipes. I ordered the Provencal Steak with Purple Potatoes and Green Beans to start this cooking adventure.

My package arrived in a sturdy box that was clearly marked perishable. The ingredients were carefully packed in an insulated bag that had ice packs in it. As I unpacked everything, I was thrilled to discover that everything was still quite cold.

The step by step directions for the recipe are easy to follow. The instructions said that it would take about 30 to 40 minutes to prep and prepare. I spent about 45 minutes total working on the recipe, prepping some ingredients while others were cooking. Recipes are rated for difficulty level, making it easy to choose what you want to make.

I really loved the purple potatoes. Such a unique ingredient!

Here's the final product! I didn't slice the steak the way it was pictured, but no one minded. Everyone loved the meal! We even had some potatoes and green beans leftover for the next day.

How to Make an Infinity Scarf

Scarves are a fantastic way to add color and flair to any outfit. I have quite a collection of scarves and love to wear them in different ways.

You can make a regular scarf into an infinity scarf!
To make an infinity scarf out of any scarf, tie the two ends of the scarf together. This is particularly easy to do with this Murfee scarf from Lilly Pulitzer because there are little fringes at the ends. Next, put the tied ends around your neck. You'll have one large loop. Finally, loop the scarf around your neck and fluff it so that it looks the way you want it to look.

Valentine's Day Decorating

When the Christmas decorations came down after the new year, the house looked a little bit lonely and sad. Although I certainly don't decorate as much as I did for Christmas, I wanted to add some fun details for Valentine's Day.

Give me a hot glue gun and I can do anything! I made this wreath with burlap, a straw wreath frame, and wooden conversation hearts that I picked up from the dollar section at Target.

Solid and gingham red and white fabric garland adorns the mantel.

The girls wanted to keep their pink tree after Christmas and decided to decorate it with Mardi Gras beads and glittery hearts. I love the end result!

Yesterday I picked up this Lilly Pulitzer sweater on Rue La La's final sale. I think that it will be adorable for a Valentine's Day party!

How are you decorating for Valentine's Day?

Match My Monogram

Recently, I encountered a much needed online marketplace called Match My Monogram. Match My Monogram solves the problem of what to do with mint condition monogrammed items that for one reason or another are no longer in use.

When I got married, I obtained a new monogram, but still have so many treasures with my old monogram. This situation arises more than you may realize; your child outgrows his gingham Fourth of July outfit with his giant initial on the pocket or you inherit Aunt Esther's fine china but your cabinet is filled with your own prized pieces. Match My Monogram takes the burden off of the consignor by finding that person out there with the same name who loves your personalized style.

In many cases, items are brand new because Match My Monogram partnered with and is able to work as a custom clearinghouse for many businesses that create personalized products and may have too many samples or unfortunate monogram mishaps. This brand new boat tote would be a fabulous find for someone. There are dozens of different monograms listed on the website.

You can also search by initial on Match My Monogram. Isn't this B dress adorable for a little girl?

After you have found your monogram and your initial, be sure to search for your name on their website. I'm picking up this Kate cosmetic spa bag for a favorite Kate!

This unique business is new, only a few months old, but it is catching on nationwide as an ideal, easy way to upcycle and share your monogrammed love. What do you do with monogrammed items that you can no longer use?

Lilly Pulitzer Spring Lifeguard Press

Just when I think I don't need anymore Lilly Pulitzer goodies, I catch a sneak peek of the spring collection from Lifeguard Press for Lilly Pulitzer. Some of my favorite prints are there along with some new items that I have never seen.

I already have a few Lilly umbrellas, but I spotted an oversized golf umbrella in the newest catalog. This is so cute! When the girls were performing at football games this fall,  I caught quite a sunburn at a few of the games. A Lilly Pulitzer Golf Umbrella will keep me cool and in the shade.

I already have quite a few acrylic wine glasses that are perfect for summer picnics and outdoor concerts. Lilly Pulitzer Hand Painted Wine Glasses are a new addition that will make your next cocktail party even more special!

Hotty Pink First Impression is one of my favorite Lilly Pulitzer prints! I think that I'll need to pick up some of these melamine plates and a Lilly Pulitzer Melamine Serving Tray .

I take these Lilly Pulitzer Market Bags with me everywhere! They're incredibly strong and resistant and hold so much. Too much is never enough.

You know that I can't resist anything with an elephant motif so when I saw this key chain flash drive, I knew that I had to have it. Wouldn't the Lilly Pulitzer Tusk In The Sun Flash Drive Keychain be perfect for school?

I'm eagerly awaiting the official release of the newest collection from Lifeguard Press! What about you?

Minnie Tween Style

My "Minnies" are now 12 years old! I can hardly believe what little ladies they have become. Gone are the days of matching smocked or monogrammed dresses, but I love the personal style that my girls have.

Unfortunately, almost nothing at Lilly Pulitzer fits them. I used the buy the entire collection times two, but the children's XL is way too small and the women's XS is often too big. They can wear some size 00 Callahan shorts, but in the winter, the sleeves and torso on the XS tops are just too big. And the inseam of the pants on a size 00 is ridiculous for my petite 12 year olds.

They've been shopping a lot at J. Crew both in the ladies and Crewcuts sections. Zara children's and ladies is another favorite. Nordstrom's junior section is a treasure and they can still wear many children's brands at Nordstrom, too.

Look how adorable the dressing room is at Nordstrom in the teen department!

I'll feature some of the girls' outfits of the day that may inspire you or your favorite tween at home. Here's Natalia with some new goodies she got for Christmas.

Nordstrom Top (similar) / jeans / Kate Spade Outlet bag / slipper
The middle school set wants comfort. My girls live in their UGG boots during the cold weather months, but also love moccassins and other comfortable shoes. You may remember that I raved about my Daniel Green slippers a while ago. Well Natalia liked my slippers so much that Santa brought her a pair of slippers for herself. The Teagan Slipper is a Mary Jane style shoe with sequins that can be worn both indoors and outdoors.

Natalia has been trying out different hair styles lately. Here's a twist that she created herself.

Garnet Hill Lilly Pulitzer

I've been a huge fan of Garnet Hill's Lilly Pulitzer collection ever since it was released. Every season, I add a little bit more to my home decor. The girls have a Lilly Pulitzer shower curtain in their room and love it! I've also used the high quality shower curtains as tablecloths.

Garnet Hill's newest shower curtains are available in popular prints like First Impression Hotty Pink, Blue Checking In, and Luscious Daiquiri Pink, a jubilee print.

Brighten any room with a new Garnet Hill Lilly Pulitzer comforter cover! You can change the look with the seasons, although, why would you ever want to get rid of these gorgeous colors? Get free monogramming on the shams to complete the look.

Match your shower curtain or add a pop of color to a neutral palette with these gorgeous towels. Luscious Daiquiri Pink is a new print in the Garnet Hill Lilly Pulitzer collection and I know that many fans will be thrilled to see the return of First Impression Hotty Pink!

Murfee Scarf Tutorial 1

Yesterday, I made a quick collage of my outfit of the day. I wore the Limited Edition NYC Murfee Scarf from Lilly Pulitzer with a plain long sleeved painter's tee from J. Crew, a cardigan from Vineyard Vines, Pixie pants from J. Crew and black sequin flats from Kate Spade.

After I posted the picture on Instagram, I received quite a few messages to ask how to tie the scarf, so I decided to create a tutorial.

Here's one way you can tie your Murfee Scarf.
1. Fold scarf in half lengthwise and put it around your neck. You'll have two ends on one side and a loop on the other side.
2. Weave 1 end of the scarf  over the loop.
3. Then weave the other end of the scarf under the loop, almost like a basketweave.
4. Adjust at the neck to get it the way you like it!

If you picked up a scarf in Lilly Pulitzer's New Year Cheer Sale, try this fun way to tie it!

More scarf tutorials to come!

Have a wonderful day and stay warm. We're expecting a high of 10 degrees today. Brrrrr.

2 Ingredient Lemon Bars

If you're looking for an easy recipe for entertaining and don't have a lot of time, whip up a batch of lemon bars with only two simple ingredients. These bars are light and moist; you won't believe how good they are!

easy 2 ingredient lemon bars recipe

All you need is a box of angel food cake mix and six pudding cups. I used lemon meringue pie pudding, but have also used lemon and butterscotch. All of these variations have worked beautifully!

easy 2 ingredient lemon bars recipe

To prepare the mix, simply blend the pudding with the cake mix. I used a mixer, but you could also do this by hand and get the same results.

Pour the mix into a 9 x 13 inch pan. I coated the pan with Baker's Joy first. Bake in a 350 degree over for about 25 minutes. Sprinkle with powdered sugar!

Lilly Pulitzer Sale Success

The Lilly Pulitzer New Year Cheer sale is a huge success. Originally, I thought that I wouldn't be able to shop the two day sale until the afternoon, but a weather delay this morning changed my plans! I logged on to the computer at 8:00 a.m. on the dot and was delighted to find a great selection of items. I was good and didn't go overboard with my spending. Here's what I got...

Items did sell out quickly and popular items were gone minutes after the sale began. But if you missed out on some of your favorites, don't despair! In addition to the Via shops that are participating in the sale, you might want to check out some of my finds in unexpected places.

Amazon.com has Lilly Pulitzer. And the prices are amazing.

Here's the Elsa Top in Cameo White Cheers Jacquard with free shipping and free returns! They also have the Elsa top in black for $57!

The Maria Boatneck Sweater in Watermelon Mile High Stripe is another great find at only around $35.

6pm.com also added a lot of new Lilly Pulitzer to their website this morning. The prices are not as good as the Amazon prices or others I have seen, but you might find something that you missed somewhere else!

What did you find at the Lilly Pulitzer sale today?
