Thanksgiving in the South

Some people think that Maryland is part of the "South." As much as I wish that it were true, Maryland is decidedly a northern state, especially here in the DC suburbs. Sure, we wear seersucker in the summer with our southern neighbors and love all things southern, I noticed many lovely changes once we arrived at my sister's house in Cary, NC.

People are friendly. Tea is sweet. Monograms are everywhere.

And the food. Oh my goodness it is good! Everywhere we ate offered a delightful treat. Even the fast food fried chicken at Bojangles tasted heavenly.

If I could, I would move here. My sister made a smart decision.

Just as you would expect, I managed to squeeze in shopping trips to not one, but two malls. Belk at Crabtree Valley Mall offers a huge selection of Lilly Pulitzer (with many items on sale!) in addition to a delightful house brand called crown and ivy. Check out some of these incredibly reasonably priced items.

At the Streets of Southpoint, I shopped at Anthropologie and loved the Lilly Pulitzer store. The employees at Lilly warmly greeted us. Surprisingly, I found a few gems on the sale rack in the store that qualified for a gift with purchase. They'll be under the tree for the girls in just a few weeks. As an added bonus, Alexia discovered that her Nordstrom gift card had a balance that allowed her to treat herself. The shopping center has a unique city theme and many storefronts look like row houses. It's a cute concept.

We spent Thanksgiving with my sister and her family. My parents also made the trip to North Carolina, so this thrilled all of the grandchildren. I loved playing with my two nephews and we celebrated baby M's first birthday with him on Friday!

I took my nephew on a special adventure to the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. The museum delighted him, especially the hands on activities like animal encounters and story time. He met a snake, a turtle, and a Madagascar hissing cockroach. Gross! In the conservatory of butterflies, butterflies landed on our clothing and bags to stop briefly as they traveled to and from the beautiful flowers in the exhibit. As a special treat, we saw the sloth, who was surprisingly active during our visit, eating a protein bar. Centro Mexican Restaurant, a delicious restaurant located just a short walk from the museum, makes an excellent choice for a meal.

We hope to visit the friendly state of North Carolina again soon! Many thanks to my sister and her husband for hosting us.
