Happy Monday! It looks like we're going to have a full week of school this week for the first time in almost a month. I admit that I am thrilled that the snowflakes on my weather app changed to raindrops because the temperatures are supposed to be above freezing. Thank goodness.
On Saturday, my mother, my aunt, and I attended our DAR chapter meeting. The tasty breakfast, complete with eggs Benedict, bacon, potatoes, and more, offered a nice change from our regular dinner meeting menu. I especially enjoyed the selection of
tea from Harrods that a member sent to us from London.
The Frederick Town Fife and Drum Corps delighted members with musical selections including Yankee Doodle and other traditional songs as part of the program. This organization works to preserve the historic arts through fifing and drumming at live performances at parades, historical and patriotic celebrations, concerts, cultural affairs, and other civic events. Truly, their performance rivals those of groups from Williamsburg, Virginia! Check out a
video that I captured at the meeting.
Every month, members purchase "voices" that offer an opportunity to win a basket full of goodies. My mother and I curated and prepared the basket for this month that raised $180 for charity. We included a gift certificate for a pie or other baked goods at a local bakery, some delicious Girl Scout cookies, a patriotic scarf,
The Famous DAR Murder Mystery book, some melamine wine glasses, a bottle of wine, and a Maryland tea towel.
On Sunday, the girls and I enjoyed lunch at one of our favorite restaurants, La Sandia. This month, the menu features delicacies from the Mexican state of Oaxaca. It's ironic, because that is exactly where we will be less than a month from now! So exciting!
