Why You Need a Midi Dress this Summer

As long as I can remember, I've always preferred a more conservative and modest approach to my wardrobe. I know that I'm not getting taller, but some hem lengths sure seem to be getting higher and higher.

Luckily, I've found the perfect solution - the midi dress!

What is a Midi Dress?

Technically speaking, the midi dress falls about mid-calf, although since I'm petite, at around 5'2", I find that most midi dresses actually fall just below mid-calf, giving a slimming look to my leg.

What's the Shape of a Good Midi Dress?

Midi dresses come in all shapes and styles, perfect for any season. For my petite, pear shape,  I find that spaghetti straps or ruffles at the sleeve are very flattering. A fit and flare shape, cinched waist, or belt also helps to give shape and movement to the lower part of the dress. A full skirt provides fabulous spin value; making any outfit instantly elevated and classic.

How to Style a Midi Dress

A midi dress works for any occasion, whether you're spending the day at home, out on the town, or even attending a formal event. For casual every day looks, pair a midi dress with a jean jacket or cropped sweater for air-conditioned buildings. Choose tulle, silk, or lace midi dress for a more formal event, pairing it with strappy sandals.

Lilly Pulitzer's Midi Dress I Have on Repeat

Lilly Pulitzer knocked it out of the park this season with this gorgeous midi dress. Immediatly I noticed the high quality of the dress. With adjustable shoulder straps, a built-in bra and elastic back, the dress is comfortable and flattering. Additionally, the dress is fully lined, giving extra flair and pouf to this classic midi dress. Best of all, the dress has deep pockets. I love a dress with pockets.

For a casual look, I paired it with a simple jean jacket, my headband of the day, and platform slide sandals.
