Wedding Color Picks: The Palettes I Keep Coming Back To

From classic pink and green to soft champagne and emerald, here are the wedding color palettes I love most, plus a foolproof way to pick yours without second-guessing.

A romantic table centerpiece of pink and white roses in soft light

Of all the fun parts of planning a wedding, picking the colors might be my favorite, and the one people overthink the most. Friends send me their inspiration boards all winter (engagement season is real), so I finally put down the palettes I find myself recommending again and again.

A quick note before the pretty part: the experts at The Knot suggest you stop thinking in terms of “I want blue and yellow” and start thinking in terms of a feeling. Their stylists describe couples moving toward concepts like “an old-money Italian dinner party” and letting the colors follow from the mood. That reframing makes the whole decision easier. Pick the world you want your guests to step into, then choose colors that build it.

My favorite palettes

1. Pink and green, forever

You knew this was coming. Blush pink with garden green is timeless, fresh, and works in every season, and it happens to be the whole heart of how I decorate year-round. The Knot notes that blush is having a real revival as one of the most-requested wedding colors, and deep greens like emerald and moss resonate with more than a quarter of couples. Soft pink for romance, green for grounding. Add white and you cannot go wrong.

2. Ivory, champagne, and gold

For the couple who wants understated and glowing rather than colorful. According to The Knot, white and ivory or champagne lead the pack in popularity, with about a third of couples reaching for those soft, less-saturated tones. It photographs like a dream and never looks dated.

3. Emerald and warm neutrals

If you want richness without going dark, emerald green paired with latte beige and warm browns feels current and cozy. It is right in step with Pantone, whose 2025 Color of the Year was Mocha Mousse, a warm, chocolatey neutral that flatters greens and blush alike.

4. Coral and navy, the preppy classic

For a waterfront or garden wedding, especially here on the Chesapeake, coral and navy is crisp and happy and very Mid-Atlantic. It is the same easy, preppy spirit I lean on in my spring wardrobe staples.

How to actually choose

  1. Start with your venue. Let the room’s existing tones do half the work rather than fighting them.
  2. Pick one hero color and two supporting shades. Three is plenty. More than that and the day starts to feel busy.
  3. Pull a real swatch. Screens lie. Hold ribbon, paint chips, or a fabric sample in the actual daylight of your space.
  4. Live with it for a week before you commit. The palette that still makes you happy on day seven is the one.

Whatever you pick, choose colors you genuinely love and not just the ones trending this minute. You will be looking at these photos for the rest of your life. Make them feel like you.
